England have suffered a blow on the eve of the 2026 World Cup with the news that Bukayo Saka will require surgery on a groin injury sustained in Arsenal's Champions League final loss to Barcelona.
The 24-year-old winger looked certain to line-up on the right side of England's attack at this summer's tournament but he is set to miss at least the group stage due to the injury he sustained in Budapest.
Saka will eventually need surgery but he could opt to postpone any operation until after England's involvement at the World Cup, for which the Three Lions are among the favourites.
The Arsenal star requires at least three weeks rest, ruling him out of the first stage and round of 32, but he could be available for the last 16 should England get that far.
